    I N F I N I T E

    a faceless criminal
Slowly something was consuming her soul. That something was paranoia.
She hadn’t meant what she had done. It had just happened. Somehow
now she had to conceal her identity. But that task was impossible.

    P A R T I
    victim / murderer

    first love equals obsession
To her, he was her whole entire world. To him, she merely didn’t exist.

Rin Lee was the epitome of a Chinese net idol. He was tall and thin, with a great face and a perfect stance. He was super pretty with big vulnerable looking eyes, a perfectly shaped nose, great mouth with a perfect smile and ivory coloured skin. His hair was soft like an angel’s wing, and the colour of platinum blond. His walk was fluid and slightly speedy as he had long legs and seemed to always be muttering to himself.

She wondered if he was normal, since to her he was too good enough for the world. An angel like him wasn’t supposed to be living on Earth and deserved to live in Heaven. She always thought that whenever she saw him walking around with those long strides of his, which were impossible for her to keep up with.

Despite his perfect appearance, Rin was deeper than the innocent guy he appeared to be.

Despite his vulnerable looking eyes, deep down inside through the intricate maze of the iris and pupil, he wasn’t a very innocent person.

    But she didn’t know that.

The bookstore was her favorite place to spend her time in. Just the idea of being surrounded by books made her feel at ease for some particular reason.

Maybe it was thick volumes of encyclopedias stacked neatly in a corner and on the opposite side romance novels were disheveled-ly thrown together in no order. Or maybe it was the long stretch of various special interest magazines on display, while the manga novels were adjacent to it.

The bookstore she loved to visit was in complete chaos, but she liked tidying it up a bit whenever she spent time there, which was always. Whenever she got tired of cleaning up the place she visited the little café connected to it and ordered a small cup of black coffee with the side of a small confection.

Particularly on this day she had no money to spend and only strolled through the aisles of books in a trance, her fingers running against the mismatched spines of books and eyes unfocused. Her appearance seemed halfhearted; as she had thrown on the first thing she had gotten her hands on that morning. The first thing she had picked up was a large oversized black sweater, which shoulders kept drooping down her thin shoulders, exposing the strap of her bra and a pair of lace stockings with holes scattered throughout them. She had slipped them on casually and slipped on her Converse All Star Hi tops and left out of her house without saying goodbye to her parents.

Those days she felt as if she were dying.

    Dying from loneliness.

Dying from the absence of friends.

Dying because of her inability to attract friends.

Her parents on the other hand just didn’t understand her. No one really understood what went on inside her head. Her thoughts were complex and philosophic, though they lacked to be coherent and were scattered about here and there.

While she was in the midst of her thoughts she failed to see the pile of books in her path and tripped over them falling to the floor.

“Damn it,” she quietly cursed scrambling onto her hands and knees so she could quickly stand up without attracting attention. A stifled laugh caused her to freeze in that position and if anyone were to past by it would appear as if she had dropped something and was intently searching for it.

Her eyes scanned the aisles to see the person who was laughing at her.

They’re laughing at me. So embarrassing.

Her cheeks flushed red as her eyes searched but she found no one before her. She was the only thing that scattered the aisle, as well as the pile of books. She quickly stood up and searched around once more, her eyes quickly fell onto an individual who was sitting on the floor in the aisle in front of her.

It was guy. Her heart began to palpitate in fear. He hadn’t seen her right?

No, he couldn’t have seen me fall… He’s too busy reading his book. Plus his back is to me.

She observed the guy only seeing the back of his head and his legs that were stretched out in front of him, as if he sat on the floor in bookstores and read books all the time. A black beanie covered his tousled blond hair, but then suddenly his head turned to the side as if he knew someone was staring at him. He slowly began to stir, signaling that he was about to turn around. If he turned around at that exact moment he would have caught her staring at him, but she quickly advanced on.

He was the least of her interests at that exact moment.

“Skinny cinnamon dolce please,” she timidly muttered to the girl at the counter of the café.

The girl quickly got to work on her order and then handed the warm cup over to her.

“That will be four dollars and twenty five cents.”

Her fingers searched the pockets of her oversized sweater for a crumpled dollar, but only turned up with a random gum wrapper. She was about to check her jeans pocket when she remember she was only wearing lace stockings.

“Um, I’m sorry I don’t have any money,” she said returning the cup of steaming hot coffee back to the girl at the counter. She quickly fixed the shoulder of her top and turned around to walk away only to walk straight into a guy who had been waiting behind her.

Her face made contact against his chest and her nose was overwhelmed with the fresh smell of soap. She quickly backed away even more embarrassed and bit her lip. “Sorry.”

“It’s fine,” the guy muttered as she made way to pass him.

A hand suddenly clasped around her wrist and she looked up surprised.

He was the most beautiful creature she had ever seen. She became paralyzed and mute at the same time, unable to neither move nor speak a word to this stranger who seemed about her age. Maybe a year or two older, wearing oversized glasses that matched perfectly with his simple outfit.

“I’m sorry to bother, but I can buy your coffee for you,” he said flashing his smile. She noted that his teeth weren’t straight and a bit crooked at the bottom, but they were white.

She couldn’t say anything as he stared at her waiting for her answer.

So he quickly turned and slipped out a crumpled bill from the pocket of his gray skinny jeans and picked up her cup of coffee handing it to her. Her hand accepted it and she tried to walk away only to find that this stranger’s hand was still clasped around her wrist.

“No thank you?” He laughed cheerfully. “Let’s talk.”

    “I have to go.”

Suddenly her motor skills were in her possession and she was ready to get away from this guy that was so beautiful that he put her face and everyone’s face around his to shame.

    “Oh, well goodbye.”

It seemed as if the cheerfulness of his voice had drained away. It seemed as if he were suddenly saddened by her eagerness to get away from him.

She quickly walked out of the café and ran home.

The next day she visited the bookstore and he was there, and she quickly exited.

The day after she visited the bookstore and he was still there, but this time he was straightening up a messy shelf of books. She quickly exited once more.

Every day for that past week she visited the bookstore to only exit after a couple of seconds. She had no idea why she was compelled away from this mysterious guy, but something inside of her was afraid of him. She didn’t know this person, or anything about him, but she was afraid of him for the fact that he was always at the bookstore. Her bookstore. The place she visited almost every day and tidied up books and ordered coffee and ordered a muffin or maybe a cookie and felt like she belonged there.

Her bookstore now belonged to him.

After a small hiatus she returned to the bookstore after she had forgotten about him and walked through the aisles placing misplaced books back into their correct spots. She felt happy as she did so and stopped when a book caught her attention. She picked it up and flipped it over.

    Romance.

    It was her favorite genre.

She felt someone pass by her. She quickly shoved the book inside of the shelf blushing and looked over at the person who was standing nearby.

    It was him.

She froze instantly and a wave of anxiety flashed over her whole entire body.

She felt weak and felt herself swaying in her place, but she remained standing.

He was leaning over a shelf of books with a delicate finger pressed against his lips as if he were searching for something, but couldn’t find it. His blond hair was covering his eyes and he seemed thinner than before. But maybe it was because his jeans were so tight and he was wearing a short sleeved shirt, despite the freezing temperature outside. He then stood up and caught her staring at him and smiled, while chuckling and continued searching for whatever he was looking for.

He passed by her and then stopped extending his hand out.

Please don’t talk to me. Don’t touch me. Just ignore me. She thought in her head trying to steady her swaying body.

His hand continued to reach out and she closed her eyes only to reopen them at the sound of his voice.

    “Ah, there it is.”

He was holding the romance novel she had just been holding. He flipped it open and begun walking down the aisle disappearing from her sight as he rounded the corner.
